Reasons Why the English Language is Hard to Learn:

1. The bandage was wound around the wound.

2. The farm was used to produce produce.

3. The dump was so full that it had to refuse refuse.

4. We must polish the Polish furniture.

5. He could lead if he would get the lead out.

6. The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.

7. Since there was no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.

8. A bass was painted the head of the bass drum.

9. When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

10. I did not object to the object.

11. The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

12. There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

13. They were too close to the door to close it.

14. The buck does funny things when the does are present.

15. A seamstress and a sewer fell down into the sewer line.

18. After a number of injections my jaw got number.

19. Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.

20. I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

21. How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Let's face it, English is a crazy language! There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in a pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French Fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies, while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. If we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. Why is it that writers write, but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce, and hammers don't ham?

If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth? One goose, two geese… So one moose, two meese?

Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend, that you can comb through annals of history but not one single annal?

If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

Why Kids Should Be Able To Eat Anywhere for Lunch

By Gabe

I think that middle school should be able to eat anywhere they want. It makes them a lot more responsible. Here are some reasons.

For first when they grow up they will get a lunch break from work, when they go and eat they don't want to be late so they keep their eye on a clock. They still might do this when they learn it earlier like in middle school. It'll also help them in high school.

Another good reason we should be able to eat anywhere we want is that it would make us happy and we would probably have a different variety of things instead of the same thing. Sometimes you should eat at McDonald's or Carl's Jr. Sooner or later you would want to eat something else, and we would like having something new so it would be fun to just try it for a week or so.

Going out for lunch would be soooo awesome! We probably would come back in time for the next period and we would get more exercise walking to where we need to eat. Once we eat our filling we can go to the bathroom and get some water or soda we might not eat in class or ask to get a drink or go to the bathroom.

Those are some of the reasons why we should be able to go out for lunch. Some other people probably don't want to eat out but hey those are my ideas. These are the reasons I would really want to do this.

OPEN CAMPUS

By Ryan

I think kids should go out to lunch at Lo-Inyo. We need to just go out and hang with friends with no super vision. We need to eat GOOD food!

Open campus would be good for us so we can either go home or go some were to eat. At school I think our food isn't as good as McDonalds or Carl's Jr. We should be able to go in middle school because we are older and more mature. I would like to hang out with friends without our teachers or our principal watching us. All the kids would like to go out that's why I think we should eat outside the campus.

I think our principal doesn't let us go because she thinks we won't come back. She should make up a rule that says if you don't come back, it will count as a tardy and you will get a referral. I think that will be fair and it might teach some people to not do it again. If I was the principal I would only let the 6th, 7th, and 8th go out to lunch because they are older and they have less chances of getting hit by a car or getting in trouble. In other schools it is allowed to go out for lunch that's why we should be able to.

One more reason is the food at our school. It's either something that we don't like or if we go out anything we want. There is many to eat us got: pizza Factory, McDonalds, Carl's Jr and many other restaurants. Some restaurants are Mt Whitney and bonanza and those are the best restaurants in town. They make their foods fast so we can eat there and then go back to school. We shouldn't have to eat the food and be forced to eat the food or we should not eat at all [that's what I do]. Last thing is all the food that we eat at our school is all frozen and all the cooks do is just warm them up. I think the cooks are good it's just the food. That's my last reason that I think we should be able to have an open campus.

Those are all my reasons. So I hope that it will change your mind about letting us go out and eat lunch. That's why I think we should be able to eat and eat GOOD food.

Open Campus

I think that schools should have open-campus lunches at our school. I think this for many reasons. Now I will share some of them with you.

First, some students at our school are not eating lunches at school because the food is disgusting and not good. And if we had open-campus lunch I think more students would start to eat more because they would have a wide variety choice of food such as: pizza from Pizza Factory, burgers from McDonalds, Carl's Jr., and The Mt. Whitney Restaurant. Also the vegetables here at school are just repulsive and yucky also they're store bought…

Second, some of us get tired at school and we should be able to go home. When we go home kids will be able to eat lunch with their families. Or we could sit at home and do homework that teachers have already assigned us. Maybe even we could sit at home and go to sleep for 15 minutes.

Last but not least, if the teachers can go out for lunch why can't we. I mean the teachers go out for lunch and they eat McDonald's right in front of us while they are trying to teach. Also if when we walk by their classrooms it always smells like McDonald's or Pizza Factory. This is not fair at all.

Those are some reasons that we should have open-campus lunch. We are responsible enough for this sort of responsibility. That is why our school should have open-campus lunch.

Open ©ampus Luncħ

By Darik

I think we should have open campus lunch every day for 6th – 8th grades. I have thought that we should for years. I have some really convincing ideas.

The kids of LPMS are sick and tired of the food at the school. Middle school kids have wanted to be able to go off campus to eat for a long time. What does the Principal think we are too immature. Some highschoolers are probably more immature than some of the 8th, 7th, and 6th graders. I mean I wouldn't doubt it.

Also, some middleschoolers don't want to spend money for the lunch at the school so they want to go home instead. Also some kids just want to go hangout at the Mt. Whitney Restaurant and play some pool. We just want to go eat somewhere else because the school lunches are old.

Some of the kids want to go hangout at the park. Or go eat somewhere besides school. I would like to go to my house and rest so I can have a break from school and sound. Also, some other kids would rather go rest instead of recess and cafeteria lunch.

I have had these ideas for years but I didn't know what to type about. But now I have a good teacher who can help me. I'm not saying any teachers are bad though just he's good with computers.

Open-Campus at Lunch

By Abby

Lunch time at our school is very fun, because we get to be with our friends and talk. Sometimes the lunch is very disgusting though, and some of us don't eat it which isn't very good for us. So we should have open-campus at lunch.

One of the first reasons that we should have open-campus during lunchtimes is because if we don't like the lunch here we can go get something else. All meals are important when you are our age so if we don't eat lunch it's not good for us. When we have choices of where we eat we are more likely to eat lunch. I'm also almost sure that most of the food we have here isn't the best for us. If the teachers get to leave campus for lunch I think we should too.

Another reason is, if you live close to the school you can go to your house and eat. Also if part of your family is in town for only a little while and you want to see them you can go to see them at lunch. Going home is a good opportunity too because you are more likely to eat the food that's at your own house. So if you think about it, this also involves our health because if we don't eat lunch at school it is not good. Then for some of us we have to go football or volleyball practice right after school so we don't have time to eat after school.

Last, I personally think that we are all responsible enough to get back on time. Once you get into 6th grade we are all responsible enough to be somewhere at a certain time. Even though we may be young, giving us this opportunity can show that we can be responsible. All of us are capable to control ourselves too, when we try. We should have an opportunity too to show that we are responsible enough.

Having an open-campus lunch would benefit us and the lunch ladies. They wouldn't have to cook as much and we would be able to eat what we wanted. Everyone likes to have what they want.

If I could eat anywhere on campus it would be in the computer lab near the office so that we could eat while playing games on the computer. The cool thing about that is we can play on the computer or look on Google for pictures.

The time would be 12:00 and we would have thirty minutes to eat. The computer lab should be bigger because we have over 40 students eating with us at lunch. The coolest thing is that we can eat while surfing the web.

The computer lab should have more computers and tables so that we could eat on a table or on our lap. The best thing about the eating without a table is that we don't even have to go on the web yet until were done eating so that we can play till the bell rings.

Too Much Homework?

By Abby

This question seems to be a very common problem at this school. Parents complain about too much homework and then the teachers argue back, it's getting kind of old now. It all seems to have caused a lot of trouble this year.

My opinion of this problem is that I do agree that once and a while one or two of the teachers gives us a lot of homework. At points though they don't give us a lot of homework and that is nice. It's hard for us to know whether or not they are giving us the right amount of homework because we're just kids. For some kids it's harder to get it done, just because maybe they don't get it. For me personally it usually isn't a problem to get my homework finished.

Some of the kids at our school probably like a lot of homework. While other kids absolutely hate it. Everyone here has their own opinion though which is good and bad. It's good because the teachers say that all the homework is necessary, while the parents and most of the kids think that it is not. We, the kids, have to do what the teachers say in order to get a good grade, so pretty much whether you like it or not we're going to have to do it.

Once you think about it you realize that teachers are there to give us a lot of homework, and parents are there to complain about it. I believe that this is the first year so many parents were complaining just from one class. It is all an ongoing thing though in this world. I'm sure that at many other schools every year they have problems with homework and parents complaining. This is very hard on the teachers too, so we have still have to think about them when the parents come in and yell at them.

In conclusion, my final opinion is that teachers do give us a lot of homework once and a good while, but they often give us too much homework. Giving us so much homework will make us not want to do it, and then when we try and it's so much and we might not get it, we just stop. Then it's so much to catch up on and it's hard. So I think that they should just not give us so much homework or no homework at all.
