Class Paragraph – Alphabetical Backwards

Ho, ho, ho said the grimy Santa. "Go away," bellowed the old man "you smell worse than a foot with yellow fungus." "Father" said the little child, "he grins at me but he looks like a monster." Every night it got worse and the elves got frightened and died.

Extra-Curricular Activites

By Ryan

There are many extra things to do when you have extra time. When I have extra time I get to play sports. There are many sports like baseball, football, and basketball.

There are many sports kids like to play and baseball is one of their favorites. It's a good sport because you get to meet friends. Baseball is good because they have 9 positions so everyone can play. It's a contact sport. The contact is when you hit the ball with the bat. Baseball is a good sport to play when you have extra time because it can either be a long game or a short game. Also back then, it used to be everyone's favorite sport to play. Baseball is a great sport to play.

Another sport is basketball. Basketball is always a great sport because you get to run up and down the court. This sport you can get in shape fast. In basketball the real rules is to have five against five on the court. But sometimes if they don't have enough players they will let you play with at least four. Basketball is an indoor sport. You can play the game in the winter and the summer. In the winter you play in the gym. When I get hot you get to play outdoors. It's a fun sport for a lot of kids.

Last, is football. A lot of kids love to play football. A reason is they get to hit other kids. [Tackle]. Next it's a good sport to stay in shape. You have to have a team of 8 or you can't play a different school or team. It is a school sport that many schools have. The sport is like basketball and soccer because you are always running. If you don't want to get hit you can play football but it is flag. In flag it's the same but you pull a flag instead of tackling. Kids love to play football these days.

There sports a very fun to play when you have extra time. Basketball, baseball, and football are great sports to play with friends and family. There are many different sports to play.

Let's face it, English is a crazy language! There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in a pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French Fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies, while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. If we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. Why is it that writers write, but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce, and hammers don't ham?

If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth? One goose, two geese… So one moose, two meese?

Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend, that you can comb through annals of history but not one single annal?

If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

Why Kids Should Be Able To Eat Anywhere for Lunch

By Gabe

I think that middle school should be able to eat anywhere they want. It makes them a lot more responsible. Here are some reasons.

For first when they grow up they will get a lunch break from work, when they go and eat they don't want to be late so they keep their eye on a clock. They still might do this when they learn it earlier like in middle school. It'll also help them in high school.

Another good reason we should be able to eat anywhere we want is that it would make us happy and we would probably have a different variety of things instead of the same thing. Sometimes you should eat at McDonald's or Carl's Jr. Sooner or later you would want to eat something else, and we would like having something new so it would be fun to just try it for a week or so.

Going out for lunch would be soooo awesome! We probably would come back in time for the next period and we would get more exercise walking to where we need to eat. Once we eat our filling we can go to the bathroom and get some water or soda we might not eat in class or ask to get a drink or go to the bathroom.

Those are some of the reasons why we should be able to go out for lunch. Some other people probably don't want to eat out but hey those are my ideas. These are the reasons I would really want to do this.

OPEN CAMPUS

By Ryan

I think kids should go out to lunch at Lo-Inyo. We need to just go out and hang with friends with no super vision. We need to eat GOOD food!

Open campus would be good for us so we can either go home or go some were to eat. At school I think our food isn't as good as McDonalds or Carl's Jr. We should be able to go in middle school because we are older and more mature. I would like to hang out with friends without our teachers or our principal watching us. All the kids would like to go out that's why I think we should eat outside the campus.

I think our principal doesn't let us go because she thinks we won't come back. She should make up a rule that says if you don't come back, it will count as a tardy and you will get a referral. I think that will be fair and it might teach some people to not do it again. If I was the principal I would only let the 6th, 7th, and 8th go out to lunch because they are older and they have less chances of getting hit by a car or getting in trouble. In other schools it is allowed to go out for lunch that's why we should be able to.

One more reason is the food at our school. It's either something that we don't like or if we go out anything we want. There is many to eat us got: pizza Factory, McDonalds, Carl's Jr and many other restaurants. Some restaurants are Mt Whitney and bonanza and those are the best restaurants in town. They make their foods fast so we can eat there and then go back to school. We shouldn't have to eat the food and be forced to eat the food or we should not eat at all [that's what I do]. Last thing is all the food that we eat at our school is all frozen and all the cooks do is just warm them up. I think the cooks are good it's just the food. That's my last reason that I think we should be able to have an open campus.

Those are all my reasons. So I hope that it will change your mind about letting us go out and eat lunch. That's why I think we should be able to eat and eat GOOD food.

Open Campus

By Brad

I think that schools should have open-campus lunches at our school. I think this for many reasons. Now I will share some of them with you.

First, some students at our school are not eating lunches at school because the food is disgusting and not good. And if we had open-campus lunch I think more students would start to eat more because they would have a wide variety choice of food such as: pizza from Pizza Factory, burgers from McDonalds, Carl's Jr., and The Mt. Whitney Restaurant. Also the vegetables here at school are just repulsive and yucky also they're store bought…

Second, some of us get tired at school and we should be able to go home. When we go home kids will be able to eat lunch with their families. Or we could sit at home and do homework that teachers have already assigned us. Maybe even we could sit at home and go to sleep for 15 minutes.

Last but not least, if the teachers can go out for lunch why can't we. I mean the teachers go out for lunch and they eat McDonald's right in front of us while they are trying to teach. Also if when we walk by their classrooms it always smells like McDonald's or Pizza Factory. This is not fair at all.

Those are some reasons that we should have open-campus lunch. We are responsible enough for this sort of responsibility. That is why our school should have open-campus lunch.

Open ©ampus Luncħ

By Darik

I think we should have open campus lunch every day for 6th – 8th grades. I have thought that we should for years. I have some really convincing ideas.

The kids of LPMS are sick and tired of the food at the school. Middle school kids have wanted to be able to go off campus to eat for a long time. What does the Principal think we are too immature. Some highschoolers are probably more immature than some of the 8th, 7th, and 6th graders. I mean I wouldn't doubt it.

Also, some middleschoolers don't want to spend money for the lunch at the school so they want to go home instead. Also some kids just want to go hangout at the Mt. Whitney Restaurant and play some pool. We just want to go eat somewhere else because the school lunches are old.

Some of the kids want to go hangout at the park. Or go eat somewhere besides school. I would like to go to my house and rest so I can have a break from school and sound. Also, some other kids would rather go rest instead of recess and cafeteria lunch.

I have had these ideas for years but I didn't know what to type about. But now I have a good teacher who can help me. I'm not saying any teachers are bad though just he's good with computers.

Open-Campus at Lunch

By Abby

Lunch time at our school is very fun, because we get to be with our friends and talk. Sometimes the lunch is very disgusting though, and some of us don't eat it which isn't very good for us. So we should have open-campus at lunch.

One of the first reasons that we should have open-campus during lunchtimes is because if we don't like the lunch here we can go get something else. All meals are important when you are our age so if we don't eat lunch it's not good for us. When we have choices of where we eat we are more likely to eat lunch. I'm also almost sure that most of the food we have here isn't the best for us. If the teachers get to leave campus for lunch I think we should too.

Another reason is, if you live close to the school you can go to your house and eat. Also if part of your family is in town for only a little while and you want to see them you can go to see them at lunch. Going home is a good opportunity too because you are more likely to eat the food that's at your own house. So if you think about it, this also involves our health because if we don't eat lunch at school it is not good. Then for some of us we have to go football or volleyball practice right after school so we don't have time to eat after school.

Last, I personally think that we are all responsible enough to get back on time. Once you get into 6th grade we are all responsible enough to be somewhere at a certain time. Even though we may be young, giving us this opportunity can show that we can be responsible. All of us are capable to control ourselves too, when we try. We should have an opportunity too to show that we are responsible enough.

Having an open-campus lunch would benefit us and the lunch ladies. They wouldn't have to cook as much and we would be able to eat what we wanted. Everyone likes to have what they want.

by Gabe

If I could eat anywhere on campus it would be in the computer lab near the office so that we could eat while playing games on the computer. The cool thing about that is we can play on the computer or look on Google for pictures.

The time would be 12:00 and we would have thirty minutes to eat. The computer lab should be bigger because we have over 40 students eating with us at lunch. The coolest thing is that we can eat while surfing the web.

The computer lab should have more computers and tables so that we could eat on a table or on our lap. The best thing about the eating without a table is that we don't even have to go on the web yet until were done eating so that we can play till the bell rings.

Too Much Homework?

By Abby

This question seems to be a very common problem at this school. Parents complain about too much homework and then the teachers argue back, it's getting kind of old now. It all seems to have caused a lot of trouble this year.

My opinion of this problem is that I do agree that once and a while one or two of the teachers gives us a lot of homework. At points though they don't give us a lot of homework and that is nice. It's hard for us to know whether or not they are giving us the right amount of homework because we're just kids. For some kids it's harder to get it done, just because maybe they don't get it. For me personally it usually isn't a problem to get my homework finished.

Some of the kids at our school probably like a lot of homework. While other kids absolutely hate it. Everyone here has their own opinion though which is good and bad. It's good because the teachers say that all the homework is necessary, while the parents and most of the kids think that it is not. We, the kids, have to do what the teachers say in order to get a good grade, so pretty much whether you like it or not we're going to have to do it.

Once you think about it you realize that teachers are there to give us a lot of homework, and parents are there to complain about it. I believe that this is the first year so many parents were complaining just from one class. It is all an ongoing thing though in this world. I'm sure that at many other schools every year they have problems with homework and parents complaining. This is very hard on the teachers too, so we have still have to think about them when the parents come in and yell at them.

In conclusion, my final opinion is that teachers do give us a lot of homework once and a good while, but they often give us too much homework. Giving us so much homework will make us not want to do it, and then when we try and it's so much and we might not get it, we just stop. Then it's so much to catch up on and it's hard. So I think that they should just not give us so much homework or no homework at all.

Robert’s Thoughts

In my opinion homework is bad. There are three reasons why homework is bad. In the next four paragraphs I will tell you why homework is bad. So read on to the next paragraph.

Homework is bad because homework makes for heavier backpacks. This leads to hunchbacks and to messy back packs. Then because of the messy backpacks we get a crumpled paper. We go to class and the teacher wont except the crumpled paper and we have to do it again. That is one reason homework is bad.

We go to school and work all day then we go home and we work some more! We work on long tedious assignments. We are bored to death. We email it to the teacher and he says he never got it! This is another reason not to give home work.

Some times we have little to no free time because of home work. Some problems take a long time. We have to walk to school. We have to carry a heavy backpack. We have to get an early start.

These are the three main reasons that home work is bad. If you want to help all children you should assign less home work. Then kids would have more fun. And you would stop messy back packs. These are the reasons not to assign home work.

Thoughts on Homework

By Ryan

My opinion would be that they should leave us 10 minutes of homework. I think that our homework should at least be 15 problems. I think it should be 15 problems because we also have homework in the other class.

Our teachers have a lot of stuff to do. Even though they work hard they shouldn't give us that much homework .since they have a lot to do I think there should be a teacher's aide. They would correct kid's homework so the teacher doesn't be that angry all the time. That's why teachers need someone to help them.

The next thing is the parents. The parents are getting involved in the homework. They have been having a campaign that the teacher shouldn't give their kids that much homework. I think the parents should keep working on the campaign but they shouldn't make the teachers that mad. If the teachers get really mad they will probably give the kids more homework. That's why the parents are good.

Sometimes the teachers give us homework that we don't need. I understand about ELA because it supposed to let us learn to spell words. But in math they give us homework that we've already done. I understand about review but I don't like doing it over and over again.

That is why they should give us homework that only takes us at least 15 minutes. Like I was saying the parents want us to have less homework I think everyone is good with 15 problems. I think that they really need more than more than one teacher in the classroom. I hope that this essay will let the teachers know how much homework we need.

Noah’s Thoughts on Homework

I've heard about the parent's campaign for less homework and I will tell you my verdict. Even though when you read this letter to the editor you might think I'm just lazy and don't want to do it, but you're wrong. The kids should have a say too even though it may be controversial.

Some classes do understand about the homework issue like Mr. Heist. He only gives us some spelling words and all we have to do is write our words five times each on Monday, write one good sentence using each word on Tuesdays, Write a story with at least five spelling words on Wednesday, and put the words in ABC (Alphabetical) order on Thursday with nothing on Friday. But then again there are the teachers who don't understand like Mrs. B. Mrs. B. gives out at least twenty problems a day and we have to right the problem, and even if there is an easy problem as in ½ + ½ we have to show how we did it and to be smart I would usually just say I did it with my BRAIN, DUH! But I don't because I'll get in trouble so that's what's crazy about homework.

My position, I don't think, is different from any kid. I think it is important for homework but we don't need that much it is outrageous how much homework we are given. I say we should still have it, but not that much. Come on teachers who give out too much homework, I'm not going to mention any names (MRS.B!) Sorry for that little outburst, but I can't stand homework. Anyways the only thing is that it takes up our life at home and I almost get in an argument every night with my mom about how to do my math homework and then my mom's boyfriend will get mad and leave. Finally I think I speak for everyone when I say way too much homework.

I think my final position is that there is still homework but way less. There should be less because it ruins our lives at home. I think I now have stated my position. Hopefully this might budge the campaign to no homework. So please teachers read this.

I've heard about the parent's campaign for less homework and I have told you my verdict. Even though when you read this letter to the editor you might think I'm just lazy and don't want to do it, but your wrong. The kids should have a say too even though it may be controversial.

Homework Summary

By Douglas

To newspaper editor from Douglas,

My position in this situation is hard because I don't like home work but kids need is so they can get what they are doing in school.

Usually home work is about one page or so. In math we get some ware around twenty problems which takes about one hour or so. Social studies is what we don't finish in class and that is like five questions. In study skills we have around one page of writing. And last English language arts the entire week is fore easements.

Monday
-
Write each word five times.
Tuesday - Write a good sentence for each word.  The sentence should show that you understand the meaning of the word.
Wednesday - Write a good story that uses at least five of the spelling words.  The story should have a beginning, a middle, and an end.  It should make sense.  Please remember to underline the spelling words.
Thursday - Put the spelling words in alphabetical order.  Also, study for Friday's spelling test. The home work is not bad but it takes a wile. Over all home work is boring and long, but it helps us in school.

Homework

By Darik

Hello people of the news my position in this campaign I am going against homework with the parents. I want no homework because it is a waste of time. Kids should be outside playing with their friends not doing homework for hours.

Sometimes I go home and start my homework I don't get done until at least 4:00. If we had no homework we could leave are parents alone. Don't we learn enough at school to not have to do homework?

I mean what is the deal? Do teachers want us not to be active! We should be able to play with are friends on such beautiful days. I am so sick and tired of homework I will not turn it in.

When the math teacher gives us homework she says it should only take us twenty minutes but it takes me like thirty. Mr. Hubbard only gives us homework if we do not finish doing whatever we are doing in class.

Now Mr. Heist he is our E.L.A. teacher. He is the funniest teacher I think. He also gives us the least homework everyday. His homework is the easiest.

By Brad

My opinion is that we students should not have more than 5-10 minutes of homework, or no homework. Why you may be asking yourself? Why don't these great students want homework? Well there are many incredible reasons why I think this way.

I think this way because some kid's writing is not that great or they just can't write at all. For example if a kid already has bad hand writing and is going to other towns an hour or so each way. And all because of these kids are failing in almost all subjects such as: Math, English langue arts, and maybe Social Studies.

The other reason is some kids just don't need it. For example, some kids are really good in school and just don't need the extra help. I think this way because it is basically just like taking a 2nd period of math or langue arts. But on the other hand kids who are failing or not listening should get homework, not the other students.

Last, but not least kids never get to be kids. For example, kids really like to run around play sports and travel. But as always the work gets in the way of everything a kid desires of doing something just like this. "Hey Tom do you want to come and play baseball with us," "No I just got to do the math homework that Mrs. Arthur assigned me."

Homework is just a waste of time. What are the real reasons of homework? Those are my three incredible reasons of why kids or students shouldn't have homework.
